What to Expect When You Bring Your Vehicle In for Transmission Repair
Transmission problems are stressful enough without wondering what happens next. Here's how a typical repair visit goes, so you know what to expect before you call.
Step 1: Tell us what's happening
Start with the symptoms. When does it happen: cold start, after warming up, under load, at highway speed? What do you feel or hear? Any warning lights? The more detail you give, the faster we can narrow it down. If you can, bring any records of past transmission work.
Step 2: Diagnosis
We inspect the vehicle, check fluid condition and level, and look for codes and signs of leaks or wear. Sometimes a problem that feels like the transmission is something else, like a sensor, a mount or a related drivetrain part. A diagnosis sorts that out before anything is taken apart.
Step 3: Your options
Once we know what's wrong, we explain it in plain terms and talk through your options, which may include a repair, a rebuild or a replacement unit. We'll also cover timing and how the warranty applies. You decide how to proceed.
Step 4: The repair
Once you approve the work, we get started. How long it takes depends on the vehicle and the repair needed, so ask for a timeframe after diagnosis. If anything unexpected comes up, we'll contact you first.
Step 5: Test drive and pickup
After the work is done, the vehicle is road tested to confirm it's shifting properly. When you pick up, we go over what was done and give you your warranty paperwork.
